Figma Studies & Prototypes

This is a study I recently did on the popular mobile puzzle game I Love Hue.

I'd love to develop and release a mobile game of my own one day. So, curious what the scope of an app like that truly looks like, I decided to take screenshots of every app state I could find -- from the initial developer splash screen, to the level select, to the game itself and the options modal. I put these screenshots in Figma, laid them all out to get the full picture, then put invisible circles and rectangles where the buttons were and strung together a simple flow between states. The result is a nice, informative little overview of everywhere the app will take you in the course of a playthrough.

Using Figma in The Ladder

I love Figma -- I think it's probably the easiest and most fluid system right now for laying out pretty much any visual idea. I love that you can draw in it, I love that you can work in whatever way you want to in the moment (from gridless jamming to full auto-layout system design), I love that you can go multi-player and take your peers through your work.

For The Ladder, I used Figma extensively to design a series of games that would be played on colorful spaceship panels. Here are some screenshots from this early work. (Note: All images on this page can be clicked for an enlarged view.)

I also like using Figma for mood boards due to its flexible nature and easy sharing:

And I even used Figma to create and share my own work calendar during crunch time:
